"The pain... the pain never really goes away. You always wish you could've done things differently. Say what needed to be said. It's okay to miss them. In a way, they make you wanna be better."
—Ellen (Catching Up)

Dr. Ellen Delgado is a main character in the machinima Sandguardians, first appearing during a flashback scene in the episode Insight to the Past before becoming a regular in Season 3. Ellen is a Guardian who specializes in stealth and infiltration.

Ellen is best friends with Nash and McGrath and was a good friend of Seal, having been partnered with Nash during her time as a scientist in the ONC. Though, as of Season 4, her relationship with Nash has been strained.

Personality[]

Old School ONC S4E15

Ellen alongside Nash, Seal, and McGrath prior to the events of the series.

Making a more prominent appearance during Help Wanted, Ellen is shown to be a very friendly individual and is willing to go to great lengths to help her teammates. After Nash, Seal, Dax and Jason are captured by ONC soldiers, Ellen is quick to save them, after receiving Nash's distress call. However, Ellen is shown to be very blunt at times. When learning of Seal's second portion of the Life Saver, she scolds him for losing it. She later scolds Seal again for nearly engaging in a fight with Legend, but attempts to talk to him afterward.

Ellen also seems to care greatly for others, even those who she knows very little about. After rescuing the Sandbox troops from prison, Ellen proceeds to give them all some insight on Seal's Life Saver and the Guardians' situation with Winters and the ONC. She then later tries to console Nash after Bernard insults her by bringing up McGrath's death. Ironically, Nash later ends up consoling Ellen after the latter blames herself for doing nothing while McGrath was in danger. This self-blame carries over in Season 4 in which Ellen continues to blame herself for failing to save Nash when she needed her.

Allan S4

Several of Ellen's flaws begin to emerge in Seasons 3 and 4, specifically, her tendency to be very self-critical when she lets someone down. In Forward, Ellen grows depressed upon reaching the Guardian base without Nash, Mickey, Bart, or Seal. In Catching Up, she constantly condemns herself for failing to help Nash and the Reds at DotCom and gives up on wearing Marilyn's new armor, which seems to be tied with her identity.

Ellen also struggles with her identity and sexuality, as alluded to in Catching Up. As shown in the episode, Ellen seems to have only shared her struggles with her friend and fellow Guardian Marilyn, who encourages her to be true to herself. Ellen, however, feels it's too late due to their circumstances. Fortunately in the episode Home, Ellen finally comes out to the Blues, despite the personal guilt and struggles she's endured. She expresses that she's grown to fully trust them and the Blues enthusiastically accept her.

Skill[]

Episode 39

Ellen is shown to be a skilled strategist, fighter, and pilot. She has no issues taking charge when the situation calls for it and can calm others down when they get emotional. In addition, Ellen has great skills in stealth and infiltration, having been able to infiltrate both the ONC Prison and the ONC Research Lab while under heavy security.

One of Ellen's greatest skills is her ability to gain the respect and trust of others, due to her humble and understanding nature. However, Ellen is shown to be very hard on herself and struggles with self-compassion.

Relationships[]

Nash[]

Nash & Ellen Flashback S4E15

Ellen and Nash prior to the events of the series

While she was a scientist in the ONC, Ellen was partnered with Nash and the two grew a strong friendship, having worked at the ONC Scientific Innovation Complex. During Help Wanted Nash was shown to be very excited upon seeing Ellen again, and Ellen seemed happy to her as well. The two even made jokes to one another, signifying their close relationship.

Later on, after Ellen learns of McGrath's death Nash consoles her. However, a strain develops in their relationship after Seal leaves without their knowledge. Ellen suggests going after Seal to save him, not wanting to abandon another friend, but Nash argues against this, not wanting to deal with the emotions of finding another dead loved one. Because of their differing views, Ellen departs to find Seal, leaving Nash behind and betraying her trust. Ellen is later left feeling guilty of her actions.

McGrath[]

According to McGrath's message in Insight to the Past, Ellen was McGrath's best friend during their time in the ONC and afterwards. Upon learning of McGrath's death, Ellen felt extremely sad and guilty for not attempting to save him and vowed not to abandon another friend.

Seal[]

Having met through McGrath in the ONC, Ellen and Seal are trusted friends and are shown numerous times to respect each other. Ellen looks out for Seal's well-being and has saved him on two occasions. Seal is also shown to trust Ellen's judgment and is willing to sacrifice himself for her.

Mickey[]

Despite being in different divisions at the ONC, Ellen and Mickey are shown to be good friends and teammates, regularly getting along and encouraging each other in battle. Ellen also seems to be close enough to Mickey to open up to him and Mickey has been shown to understand her struggles. This is evident in Second Chance, where Mickey understands Ellen's reasoning for wanting to help Seal. Mickey later tells Ellen to not return to DotCom, in order to keep the latter safe. While Ellen listens to Mickey's advice, she is saddened for having to leave her friend behind.

Bartholomew[]

Ellen's friendship with Bart is similar to her friendship with Mickey. Bart greatly trusts Ellen's judgment and leadership though is a bit more reserved around her. When Ellen attempts to sneak off to save Seal, Bart and Mickey stop her. After Ellen explains herself, the two allow her to go, understanding her dilemma.

Marilyn[]

Ellen seems to trust Marilyn greatly, implying that the two are close. In Catching Up, Marilyn allows Ellen to vent about her guilt but tries to encourage her not to blame herself so much. She instead acknowledges admiration towards Ellen for going to find Seal, stating that she wouldn't be able to do the same. Ellen responds telling her that she's stronger than she thinks, showcasing the mutual respect the two have for one another.

Ichabod[]

Icky initially didn't trust Ellen or any of the other Guardians, due to their association with Seal, who caused many problems for the Blue Team. Despite this, Ellen didn't hold any ill feelings towards Ichabod as she understood his situation. When Ellen, Dax, and Jason attempted to steal the Pelican in Second Chance, Icky called them out for it. However, Ellen used this opportunity to ask for Icky's help in their mission to infiltrate the ONC Research Lab.

During the mission, Ellen protected Icky from getting killed and the latter was able to gain the data on the Chancellors' Project Genesis. These acts allowed the two to build trust in each other. After Seal sacrificed himself to allow them to escape, Dax and Jason yelled at Ellen to return to DotCom so they could help the others. However, Icky did not and instead followed Ellen's lead, showing that he has built trust in her.

In Season 4, Ellen and Ichabod talk and run together. Their chemistry is shown to have improved as the two are able to open up with each other and even joke with one another. Icky also expresses concern over Ellen's mental well-being.
