"I'm not gonna go on some ludicrous side quest, just to see someone I care about dead on the ground."
—Nash (Insight to the Past)

Dr. Evelyn Nash is a main character in the machinima series Sandguardians, first appearing briefly in Season 1 but made more prominent appearances in Season 2 and onward. Nash is the skillful and protective member of the Guardians, being very fast and hostile in battle but sociable and compassionate amongst her friends.

Nash is also very loving to those closest to her and strives to ensure their safety. In addition to being a scientist, Nash is very strong in battle and is arguably one of the most resilient fighters in the series.

She is best friends with Ellen and was a good friend of Seal as well as was the fiance of McGrath, though her friendship with Ellen has been strained as of Season 4.

Personality[]

Old School ONC S4E15

Nash alongside Ellen, Seal, and McGrath prior to the events of the series.

Nash has a very resilient and protective personality. During her second appearance, she threatened to kill Dax unless he, Jason and Seal left the desert immediately. Although Jason and Seal tried to stop her, Nash did not back down. Jason agreed to her terms, but Seal recognized who she was and prevented her from killing Dax. Once then, after reuniting with Seal, Nash's attitude mellowed down, as she became much calmer, yet still remaining defensive towards Dax and Jason. Although, she showed compassion when thanking the two for helping Seal.

Episode 40

It is later revealed that Nash had history with Seal and McGrath. According to Mistaken Identity, Seal explains that she was once a scientist along with them. She also calls Seal "Chameleon" and is able to understand his native speech, much like McGrath. As the series progresses, Nash is shown to be very protective of her friends and very hostile towards those who try to hurt them. She trusts her friends greatly and can't believe they would betray her.

While holding a tough demeanor, Nash is very compassionate, specifically towards her friends, as she is always looking out for the well-being of her teammates. However, Nash becomes deeply hurt when others betray her or use her emotions against her. This is showcased throughout the series. In Insight to the Past, Nash snaps at Seal when the latter accuses her of not loving McGrath enough. In Priorities, she yells at Dax when the latter tries to throw her words back at her after Seal leaves. When Ellen leaves with the Blues in the Pelican, Nash is visibly hurt over her best friend abandoning her and is stuck in a state of denial in Tough Love. At the same time during this period, she manages to open herself up to the Sandbox Reds, growing a solid camaraderie with them throughout Season 4.

After Gates was killed by Johnson in One Shot, Nash grows colder and distant with the other Guardians, specifically Ellen, with Marilyn being the only exception.

Skill[]

Nash seems to exhibit a great amount of leadership, being able to command a group of soldiers successfully. She is shown doing this time and time again throughout the series, especially towards those she doesn't know well. Nash is able to lead Dax, Jason, and Seal in Season 2 and later lead the Reds in Season 4, while injured no less. In Season 3, the Sandbox troops and the Guardians follow her command regularly, showing her place as an important member of the Guardian hierarchy.

Nash is also skilled in stealth, as she kept herself hidden from the Guy in White, and from Dax, Jason, and Seal in Service Unavailable. Adding to this, Nash was able to keep herself completely hidden from the ONC soldiers in Sandtrap and later the Purification Facility with the Reds' help. Furthermore, it is shown that Nash is an excellent strategist, as she is commonly shown making plans about what her team will do next.

Relationships[]

Seal[]

Nash is shown to have a very close relationship with Seal, due to their history of being scientists in the Ordinance Nationality Corporation. When the two reunited in Mistaken Identity, Seal persuaded her to help him find McGrath by questioning her love for him. Although Nash agreed to help Seal, she expressed her fear of finding McGrath dead and didn't want Seal to experience the feeling himself. So ever since, Nash has looked after Seal and has attempted to protect his emotional being, similar to how Jason tried to protect the latter earlier in Season 2.

Despite this, Seal and Nash have been shown to work very well together, both in and out of battle, and seem to share a great love for their friend McGrath.

McGrath[]

It is revealed in the series that Nash and McGrath had a mutual loving relationship since their occupations as scientists in the ONC, which also explains Nash's friendship with Seal. McGrath has openly expressed his love for Nash and considered her as the greatest thing that has ever happened in his life during his video message in Insight to the Past. Nash most likely feels the same way for McGrath and deeply loves him. In Loved and Lost, Nash discovers McGrath dead and expresses extreme sadness, further indicating that she loved him.

Jason[]

Nash seems to work well with Jason, as she admires Jason's creativity. However, the two are constantly disagreeing on certain actions, specifically relating to Seal. Despite this, Nash is usually seen pairing up with Jason and may trust his intentions and respect his opinions. During Loved and Lost, Jason comforted Nash during her low point of sadness and tried to re-focus her attention on the mission.

Dax[]

Nash seems to trust Dax and admires his skill in battle. However on occasion, Dax, along with Jason, annoys her to a certain degree. Despite this, Nash trusts Dax and his abilities, and sees him as a loyal and ambitious individual.

Ellen[]

Ellen & Nash Flashback S4E15

Ellen and Nash prior to the events of the series

Nash and Ellen are shown and described to have a close relationship with each other, due to the fact that both of them were partner ONC scientists. In addition, Nash's lover McGrath was best friends with Ellen, further signifying Nash's close friendship with her. During Help Wanted, Nash was overjoyed upon seeing Ellen as the two went to go rescue Seal together.

Nash grows deeply hurt when Ellen leaves in the pelican and has trouble accepting that she abandoned her in Tough Love. Their reunion in Home only furthers the wedge in their friendship, leaving them estranged by the end of Season 4.

Marilyn[]

Nash and Mary S4E15

Nash with Marilyn after her surgery during Home

Marilyn worked at the ONC with Nash before the events of the series, now both part of the Guardians. The two had appeared ecstatic to hear one another in Contact.

Nash appears to trust Marilyn immensely, allowing her to perform surgery and give Nash a prosthetic leg. Notably, Marilyn is the only Guardian that Nash appears friendly with after the events of Season 4, displaying their close friendship.

Claire[]

Claire and Nash's relationship started off very rocky, with the two not actually interacting until Season 4. Claire didn't trust Nash, or the other Guardians for that matter, upon meeting her in Season 3. In Season 4, Claire expressed her frustration towards Nash's secretive nature while Nash expressed her frustration towards Claire's attitude. Due to them being on the run at the time, the two grew to know each other. In Between You and Me, Claire shares her sympathy after learning that Nash lost her fiance, McGrath. In Red Alert, Nash goes to great lengths to protect Claire, earning her respect and admiration. As a result, Claire later openly admits that she trusts Nash. Nash, in turn, grows to trust her as well and the two soon become friends.

Miller[]

While cautious at first, Miller grows to trust Nash faster than the other Reds. The two fight alongside each other throughout Raiders, with Miller protecting Nash after she gets injured. While she's out, Miller drags her to safety and attempts to tend to her leg injury. The two begin to bond in Season 4, with Miller rarely questioning Nash's judgement and showing respect to her leadership. Nash also grows to trust Miller much more quickly than Claire and Gates, as she shows interest in his background first and specifically radios him in Last Resort later on. The two also regularly encourage one another and are seen pairing up in battle often. Miller is shown to grow more self-confident due to Nash's leadership.

Gates[]

Like the rest of the Guardians, Gates did not trust upon meeting her. However, he did fight alongside her during the battle of DotCom. In Season 4, their relationship remains rocky as Gates constantly berates and questions Nash's decisions and motives. Nash later snaps at Gates after he questions her abilities, causing Gates to reflect on his attitude. As Gates mellows out afterward, he and Nash grow to respect and care for each other. Overall, while the two are not close they do have a mutual respect for each other as soldiers.
