Ossuary is the seventeenth episode of the third season of Sandguardians and the forty-ninth overall.

Plot[]

The battle intensifies at DotComBernard battles Mickey and Bartholomew while Miller and Legend avoid oncoming fire from ONC reinforcements. Taking cover from an ONC guard with a rocket launcher, the latter two attempt to find a way to get Nash to safety. Gates agrees to take care of the rocket soldier and tells the two to focus on Nash. With some well-thrown frags, Gates successfully kills the rocket-wielding soldier and spots Mickey & Bart searching for Bernard. Bernard leaps onto their Prowler, tosses Bart out of the gunner seat, and fires at him, forcing him to retreat. Mickey attempts to knock Bernard off but the latter aims at Gates and fires. Luckily, Claire interferes with a Warthog, saving Gates. Gates, in turn, mans the turret and destroys the Prowler just in time for Mickey to flee to safety. Gates and Claire then take aim at an injured Bernard.

Suddenly, the Warthog is destroyed by a Spartan Laser, as more ONC reinforcements drive up the beach. Bart and Mickey help Gates and Claire fall back to the pipe but Mickey is incapacitated by Bernard. The ONC then force Bart and the Reds behind cover. Upon seeing them in trouble, Legend rushes to their aid while Miller drags Nash into the pipe to safety.

At the research lab, Allan, Seal, and the Blues fight off pursuing ONC guards. However, Seal notices that the guards aren't dead but have been strengthened by the Life Saver Pod. Realizing that the guards will be difficult to defeat, Seal decides to destroy the pod himself, in order to prevent Winters from using in the future. Knowing that the explosion will kill him, Allan and the Blues object to this. Allan further points out that Seal will be leaving everyone he loves behind and suggests they find another way. However, Seal explains he's sacrificing himself for them. He then hands Allan his beam rifle, which contains photos of both the Life Saver Pod and the Project Genesis files, and tells them all to be strong. He flees, with the Blues crying for him to stop. Unfortunately, Allan and the Blues are attacked by more ONC guards, prompting them to make their escape.

Seal then reaches the Life Saver Pod room and locks himself inside. Winters, Sydney, and Johnson spot Seal from a balcony above and tell him that he's surrounded. However, to their shock, Seal steps into the Life Saver Pod, activating it. As the pod infuses Seal with energy, Seal spots the power core powering the pod. As he says his last words, Seal throws a plasma grenade onto the core. It explodes and destroys the entire chamber, killing Seal and severely injuring Winters, Sydney, and Johnson. Luckily, Allan and the Blues safely escape on a pair of Hornets.

Allan radios Mickey and discovers that he is severely injured. Allan tells him that he's on his way back to help but the call is interrupted by Bernard. Bernard tells Allan that his men killed all of his friends but Allan refuses to believe this. Bernard then assures him that they'll find him and the Blues eventually before ending the call. Concerned, the Blues ask Allan if they're going back to DotCom to help the others. Allan doesn't answer. The four then fly off into the distance.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was originally entitled "Last Man Standing".
  • This episode's ending was also originally intended to be the ending for the season as a whole. This idea was scrapped in order to include a more complete closing.
  • Seal blowing up the Underground Chamber was inspired by the sixteenth episode of Red vs. Blue: Season 13, where the character Doyle sacrifices himself by blowing up a nuclear reactor.
  • This episode marks the debut of ONC guards Williams and Varrick, who can be seen at 3:48, being shot by Seal. The two later recover from the wounds due to being enhanced by the Life Saver Pod, much like Winters in the previous episode.
